San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association Endorses Mark Farrell for Mayor

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Francisco, CA – August 21, 2024 – The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (SFDSA) is proud to endorse Mark Farrell as the top choice for Mayor of San Francisco in the upcoming election. This endorsement is based on Farrell’s extensive experience, past accomplishments, and his proactive approach to key issues facing our city.

Mark Farrell for Mayor

Mark Farrell, who served as the 44th Mayor of San Francisco from January 23 to July 11, 2018, has a proven track record of addressing critical challenges. His effective handling of homeless encampments during his previous tenure has set a high standard for improving the city’s cleanliness and safety. Farrell’s approach to homelessness included a shift from a “housing-first” to a “shelter-first” strategy, focusing on temporary beds and establishing a central intake location for homeless individuals. His commitment to removing large tent encampments within his first year as mayor highlights his dedication to tackling this pressing issue head-on.

In his current campaign, Farrell has outlined a platform that emphasizes public safety and business-friendly policies. He has pledged a “zero-tolerance” approach to crime, proposing to increase the number of recruits in the city’s police academy and significantly expand the police force. Farrell’s focus on public safety includes plans to reallocate funding to support increased police hiring and public safety initiatives.

Farrell’s proposals also include tax exemptions for small businesses with gross revenues below $5 million and advocating for reintroducing cars to Market Street, currently a pedestrian-only corridor. His practical approach to these issues reflects a commitment to revitalizing San Francisco and addressing its diverse needs.

Ken Lomba, President of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association, stated: “Mark Farrell is our number one choice for Mayor of San Francisco. His experience as a former mayor, combined with his proactive and pragmatic approach to addressing homelessness and enhancing public safety, makes him the best candidate to lead our city forward. Farrell’s commitment to revitalizing our business environment and focusing on effective solutions for our city’s challenges aligns with the SFDSA’s vision for a safer and more prosperous San Francisco. We believe that under his leadership, San Francisco will thrive.”
