SFDSA Endorses Sheriff Paul Miyamoto for Re-election
The San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Association (SFDSA) is pleased to announce our endorsement of Sheriff Paul Miyamoto for re-election. This decision represents a significant shift in our stance. While initially, we chose not to endorse Miyamoto, the Sheriff’s recent efforts to address critical issues within the department have demonstrated his commitment to our shared goals of safety, effectiveness, and growth.
In recent months, Sheriff Miyamoto has made strides in key areas that impact our members and the overall success of the department:
- Increased Hiring and Staffing: One of the most pressing challenges facing the department has been staffing shortages. Sheriff Miyamoto responded by prioritizing recruitment and increasing hiring, finally achieving hiring levels above attrition. This was a major factor in our decision to offer our endorsement, as it directly strengthens the department’s operations and addresses a long-standing need.
- Resolution of Internal Issues: Miyamoto has taken measurable steps to fix various operational inefficiencies, including addressing issues within the Backgrounds Unit to streamline the hiring process. This improvement directly benefits our current members and ensures that we continue to attract qualified candidates to serve as deputies.
- Support for Department Initiatives: The Sheriff has shown support for legislative and departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing our resources and securing a modern facility. His commitment to the long-term vision of the department, including the potential construction of a new jail facility, is a critical investment in the future of public safety in San Francisco.
The SFDSA membership recently reviewed these achievements and agreed that Miyamoto’s efforts reflect a strong dedication to our goals and values. Our endorsement acknowledges the progress made and reinforces our expectation for continued improvements.
As we look to the future, the SFDSA will maintain its philosophy of supporting leadership that aligns with our mission and holding all leaders accountable to their commitments. We are confident that this endorsement will serve as a foundation for further advancements and a positive working relationship with Sheriff Miyamoto as he continues his role.
The SFDSA encourages all members to join us in supporting Sheriff Miyamoto in his campaign. We look forward to continued progress and a stronger, more resilient department under his leadership.
